AETHEL

AETHEL

With 'AETHEL,' we sought to visually interpret the boundary between historical authenticity and visual poetry. This project is a masterclass in atmospheric filmmaking. Shot entirely on analog 16mm film, we relied on an 'available light' philosophy, augmented only by precise, diffused practicals and a continuous, textured haze. The goal was to create a tangible sense of time and place—where the dust motes are characters and the grain of the film stock dictates the rhythm. It’s a somber, beautiful study of characters suspended in moments of profound stillness, meticulously crafted to evoke an emotional resonance that feels both raw and timeless. The color palette, dominated by golden ambers and deep, earth tones, was achieved purely photochemicaly, preserving the film's natural response to skin and shadow.
